I.e. 6 or 12 hours, blended or classroom, accredited or non-accredited. In truth, it's just about selecting the best course that meets the mandatory requirements for your industry.

Many people may be refreshing their course as part of the three-year cycle, whilst others may be new to the world of childminding, nannies or nursery schools. Therefore completing a paediatric first aid course in London for the very first time. Paediatric First Aid (12 Hour)

The Paediatric First Aid (12-hour) course is the highest paediatric workplace first aid course within the industry. This course is typically completed by childminders, nursery school workers, after-school club staff, and those in schools with a position of responsibility, e.g., school nurse/welfare room staff.

The course consists of one practical day (6 hours) and e-learning (6 hours). Added up to the mandatory 12 hours of training required by Ofsted and the Early Years Foundation Stage as part of the qualification.

E-learning is completed on a user-friendly portal that allows you to take breaks and return to your work at any time. Your results are tracked, and once complete, you will get a notification confirming you have passed the module. The module is a learning process; therefore, you can go back and correct any mistakes. There are no exams in the module; just questions, puzzles, videos, and other interactive content.

Both the classroom day and the e-learning module need to be completed before certification. It's advisable to have completed the e-learning before the practical day. However, we understand there are exceptions when booked at short notice and sometimes due to mitigating circumstances. Anyone who has completed the classroom day is still qualified as an emergency paediatric first aider for insurance purposes whilst awaiting their full 12-hour certificate.

Paediatric First Aid (6 Hour)

The shorter Paediatric First Aid (6-hour) course is often completed by Nannies, school staff and babysitters. This course is just classroom-based with no e-learning component. It's simply a case of turning up, completing the practical and other theoretical tasks and then being ready for your certificate.

Just like the longer 12-hour classroom day, you can expect to learn how to deal with the unconscious casualty, CPR, choking, major bleeding and a wealth of other theory topics.

Choosing the shorter 6-hour course does not in any way mean you are a less effective first aider. In fact, the vast majority of emergencies within a paediatric setting require emergency skills, which this course covers in full. Expect, by its conclusion, to be confident in your arrival on the scene, in calling the emergency services, and in what to do whilst you await their arrival.

First Aid for Parents and Carers

If you are a parent or carer in London and want someone to visit your home to teach emergency life-saving skills, then this course could be for you. Or maybe you have a local venue and would like to host a course for other parents, friends or family members.

This course will be far more relaxed than the workplace first aid courses mentioned above. It's more about life skills and practicing without the pressure of meeting requirements for a job role. You can expect to learn similar topics in the longer paediatric first aid courses, such as checking breathing, the recovery position, choking, and CPR.

The best part is that you can tailor the course to your own needs. Choosing how long you want the course to run for (average 2-3 hours) and what topics you would like included. Your fully qualified instructor is always on hand to field any questions outside of the general syllabus that you have an interest in. These skills are hugely beneficial to any parent / carer, whether they are new or experienced, young or old. Sometimes they are taught in NCT classes, but not everyone completes them; therefore, hosting your own course could be hugely beneficial to your family, grandparents, etc.

There are both weekday and weekend options at all venues, as weekdays could be a no-go when when self employed or busy in your own job roles

Greenwich

The centre is less than a 2-minute walk from Greenwich mainline rail station. Alternativley North Greenwich tube station is a longer walk or bus ride away. Parking is not recommended at this venue, but you may find good local deals on the JustPark website.

Islington

The centre is a short walk from Angel tube station, or a longer walk / bus ride from Highbury & Islington. Due to its proximity to central London, parking is not recommended. However, the JustPark website sometimes has good local deals, and Sainsbury's is listed as £25 for the day there. This may seem expensive, but the average cost of a car park in the area is £40- £50 per day. Hence, public transport is strongly recommended.

Richmond

The centre is a 10-minute walk from Richmond station, or alternatively, bus routes stop outside the venue. On-site parking is free at this training centre.

Westminster

Transport

The centre is a 2-minute walk from Leicester Square underground station and is also served by many bus routes. It is strongly advised to use public transport as parking in central London is very expensive and will incur the congestion charge.

Fast Track Certification

Train Aid will deliver your certificate to your inbox as soon as possible after the course concludes. The maximum time allowed is 10 days; however, it is often much sooner. If, for any reason, you are unable to work while waiting for your certificate, you can contact the office the day after the course, and we will fast-track your certificate to you that day.
​
If you have booked an in-house group for your staff, all certificates are emailed to the person who booked the course. The office can monitor e-learning progress for you and provide updates on staff members where necessary.
​
Everyone, whether an individual or a group, receives a renewal reminder three months prior to their certificate expiry date, and again one month prior if the first reminder was missed. Renewing your course with the same company is a great way to catch up with your instructor and stay up to date with the latest guidelines and advice.
