First Aid and Fire Marshal Training

There is a good chance you are probably here because you own a business or you're helping manage a business which is looking to meet mandatory industry requirements. Two of the most popular mandatory courses to complete are first aid and fire marshal for any business operating within the UK. 

Both first aid and fire marshal qualifications are linked to saving lives within any workforce. Including employees, contractors or members of the public. The courses also help meet the requirements of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), certifying staff members to be prepared for any emergency. This has been proven to be linked to an overall safer working environment.

First Aid

First aid courses can be typically split between low risk industries who typically complete the one day emergency first aid at work course and high risk industries who complete the three day first aid at work course.

Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work

The one day emergency  first aid at work course is suitable for low risk industries including shops, restaurants, hotels, gyms and warehouses. The course teaches a wide range of life saving skills that can be put into practice during a real life emergency within the workplace.

Level 3 First Aid at Work

Level 3 First Aid at Work

Level 3 First Aid at Work is completed by high risk industries where there is a risk of life threatening bleeding such as construction, forestry and factories (where machinery is used). It’s also suitable for low risk industries who are responsible for over 100 people e.g. schools.

The 3 day first aid at work course consists of one classroom day (6 hours) and e-learning (12 hours). It can also be completed in 3 days of classroom training for those who prefer the traditional format.

The course covers both emergency and non-emergency situations that can occur within the workplace. The classroom day is assessed through practical observation and a multiple choice assessment paper. The e-learning module requires 100% completion of the interactive content within it.

Fire Marshal

Fire Marshal

Fire Marshal is a four hour course which covers fire safety within the workplace alongside the safe use of fire extinguishers. Staff members can expect to learn when, where and when not to use a fire extinguisher within the workplace. Including practical based training with real life extinguishers during the main practical of the course.

Fire Marshal training is suitable for any member of the workforce but is typically allocated to certain individuals who will manage fire safety, training and a real life emergency within the workplace.

The typical role of a fire marshal during an emergency would be to ensure a safe evacuation of the premises, roll call at the assembly point and getting the correct information to the emergency services.

The course is assessed through a multiple choice assessment paper and observation during the practical extinguisher training.

Frequently asked questions

Can both courses be completed on the same day?

TA: Because first aid is generally a minimum of six contact hours and fire marshal four contact hours it is generally advised to complete these courses on separate days.

Are these courses nationally recognised?

TA: First Aid qualifications are nationally recognised through the First Aid Industry Body (FAIB) and Fire Marshal is a CPD accredited course.

What do we need to provide at our venue?

TA: The first aid training room should have at least 360 square feet (40 square meters) of clear floor space. This space should be free of tables and seating, as some first aid training exercises take place on the floor.

Fire Marshal training works well with traditional tables and chairs. Please note we will need an outdoor space that is closed off from members of the public in order to complete the fire extinguisher practical training.

Can anyone complete these courses?

TA: Yes, anyone is welcome to complete either of these courses. Please note you must be physically able to complete two minutes of CPR practice on the floor in order to enrol on a nationally recognised first aid at work course. You must also be able to physically operate a fire extinguisher in order to complete the fire marshal training.

Anyone who does not meet the above pre entry requirements are still welcome to complete as much of the course as they can and would obtain an awareness certificate.

Can we complete these qualifications online?

There are pure online options for both the emergency first aid at work and fire marshal courses. Please note that the online courses are not a substitute for practical training if it is a mandatory requirement in your industry. However the options are there for those businesses who fall outside of these requirements.
