Paediatric First Aid (6 Hour)

The qualification covers the practical skills that are required to save the life of child or infant during an emergency. This is suitable for Nannies, Au Pairs, babysitters and parents who mainly need to learn about the practical elements of first aid.

The course follows the syllabus of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and meets the requirements of Ofsted for the Voluntary register.

What's involved?

Candidates can expect an informal and relaxed set up, which is hosted by an experienced first aid instructor. The instructor demonstrates each practical skill, and then allows people time to practice themselves

Working in small groups candidates practise on real life dummies and each other - with the full support from the instructor. There is also a chance to field questions and debate / share experiences amongst each other.

What you get out of it

On completion candidates are awarded an electronic Paediatric First Aid (6 Hour) certificate. The qualification is nationally recognised, valid for three years and can be used towards the Voluntary Ofsted Childcare Register.

Candidates also gain the confidence to deal with a child / infant who is injured, unconscious, non-breathing or choking.

Who's it for?

The 6 Hour Qualification is an entry level course that is suitable for candidates aged 16 years and older. It can benefit those who may need to help an infant or child during the event of an emergency. This includes:

  • Nannies
  • Au Pairs
  • Baby Sitters
  • Parents
  • Grand Parents

Childminders, Nursery Staff and after school clubs should enrol on the Paediatric First Aid (12 Hour) Qualification.

What will I learn?

Expect to learn how to preserve life, prevent conditions from worsening and how to promote a recovery. This is achieved through demonstrations, practicals and real life videos. Candidates learn about the following topics and much more:

  • How to check for signs of breathing
  • Assessment of injuries
  • Recovery position
  • Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Choking
  • Major Bleeding & shock management 
  • Seizures
  • Minor injuries & burns
