The course recognises the special skills set that is required to carefully and safely move people within both the work and home environment. Time is spent on the course learning about the responsibility of moving people safely and examining the dangers of poor / mismanaged movement. In light of this the course then moves towards a practical theme, whereby candidates receive a demonstration of proper moving technique with and without equipment. Each candidate then has the opportunity to practice these techniques themselves.
The qualification is split between two units which are assessed through a 15 question multiple choice examination and a practical competency based assessment. Candidates must answer 10 out of the 15 multiple choice questions to successfully pass. They must also demonstrate that they have the practical skills required to safely move a person during the competency based assessment.
