What's involved?

The course recognises the special skills set that is required to carefully and safely move people within both the work and home environment. Time is spent on the course learning about the responsibility of moving people safely and examining the dangers of poor / mismanaged movement. In light of this the course then moves towards a practical theme, whereby candidates receive a demonstration of proper moving technique with and without equipment. Each candidate then has the opportunity to practice these techniques themselves.

The qualification is split between two units which are assessed through a 15 question multiple choice examination and a practical competency based assessment. Candidates must answer 10 out of the 15 multiple choice questions to successfully pass. They must also demonstrate that they have the practical skills required to safely move a person during the competency based assessment.

What you get out of it

Candidates receive a nationally accredited certificate which demonstrates that they are able to safely move people within their particular work setting. This is useful for an individual's confidence and gives companies / organisations the peace of mind that their staff are trained to a national standard.

Who's it for?

The course is aimed at those who work in part time / full time roles within the care industry. It is vital within these environments that people are looked after properly and that all staff have received the appropriate training to ensure this is the case.

It is perfect for those who wish to refresh their skills or may be completely new to the subject area.

What will I learn?

Expect to gain a good understanding on the theoretical concepts associated when moving a person. This is highlighted through the science, mechanics and comfort of movement. There is also a strong emphasis placed on teaching candidates how to move a person safely through the use of demonstrations and hands on practicals.
