Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment - In House

This qualification is intended for people to assess occupational competence in their work environment.  It teaches learners how to successfully plan and carry out assessments in their own workplace. 

The course involves two initial classroom days, followed up by a third day in which your tutor visits you in your workplace to observe you carry out an assessment.

What's involved?

The initial part of the course covers the theoretical principles of assessment. It investigates the various different assessment methods and the detailed planning of workplace assessments. Learners are required to complete various written tasks during two classroom days.

The practical element requires learners to carry out two assessments on two different employees in their workplace, so four assessments in total. Learners complete a portfolio of the assessment plans, evidence and feedback. This includes your tutor visiting you in your workplace to observe an assessment and give you feedback on your completed portfolio.

What you get out of it

Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive a nationally accredited workplace assessors qualification enabling you to carry out independent assessments in your workplace. The course is designed to give you the confidence and competence to plan, deliver and evaluate workplace assessments.

With more and more emphasis on quality control within many industries, the demand for qualified assessors in the workplace has risen dramatically in recent years. Achieving this qualification will enable you to apply for new jobs or promotions specifically asking for workplace assessors.

Who's it for?

This qualification is intended for those who assess occupational competence in their work environment. There are no prerequisites and it is designed for both experienced assessors and those that are new to the role. 

You will need basic English writing skills for the written assessments completed with your tutor in the classroom. You will also need access to two employees in your workplace to carry out your four assessments.

What will I learn?

You will learn how to select the appropriate assessment methods for workplace assessments. This includes the detailed planning of assessments, carrying our assessments and the role of constructive feedback to learners after an assessment has been conducted. 

The course is designed to teach you the assessment skills to support your colleagues and raise the standards of practice within your own workplace.
