In every classroom, training room and other learning space around the world, there will be at least one ‘challenging learner’.  Perhaps they appear to be confrontational – or entirely withdrawn.  Often they are not engaging with the learning that we need to be taking place and it can be utterly frustrating and demoralising.  Interestingly, it probably is for them as well!  So how can we deal with this?  As the famous saying goes, all behaviour is communication – and that is exactly what we need to do.

A webinar is essentially the same as a seminar but it is conducted over the internet. Users do not need to be in a physical location which has a whole range of benefits. Yet they can still experience the expertise of somebody and interact with other users of the service.Webinar courses can replicate the classroom environment and help people learn a subject area from the comfort of their own home. This is a hot topic at the moment due to the restriction in both domestic and international travel as a result of CO-VID 19.

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training formerly known as PTLLS (Preparing to teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) is an expansive qualification with a range of opportunities available once you have achieved this status. It is a lifelong qualification which means the certificate does not expire.

Whether you are an experienced trainer or new to teaching and training, the Level 3 Award in Education and Training is the qualification which formalises your status as a trainer and is required by many awarding bodies to help you to deliver accredited courses specialising within your own subject area. We caught up with learner Carl Jeffery who has recently completed his qualification to ask him about his experiences.

The 15-minute micro teach has always been regarded as the litmus test for any aspiring teacher or trainer undertaking the Level 3 Award in Education and Training. Where most learners relish the prospect of delivering their individual subject, others naturally feel apprehensive about delivering their chosen topic to a group for the very first time.  The micro teach can be a daunting experience but most learners enjoy the ‘buzz’ of the micro teach day and enjoy the positive atmosphere that learners bring to the day. "I first started meditating 35 years ago, it was a spiritual meditation for my own personal mental health and to help my well-being. During that process I discovered mindfulness. I liked that idea how it was different to meditation in a sense that it brings you to the ‘here and now’ and makes you aware of the present rather than with meditation where you go into a certain place and visualise something. The education and training sector is a fast paced and results driven industry with key focus on high pass rates and statistics. What is often neglected is the quality of teaching and delivery by practitioners. Leading to the value of the learning experience being ignored. 

Education and mental health go hand in hand. For anyone who is experiencing mental health issues, undertaking a qualification or course can be a vehicle for change. It can serve to be a personal target or one to improve their career prospects- allowing for learners to self-actualise and realise their potential.

Let’s face it lesson planning is often considered ‘the bane of a teacher’s life’, the minutes and hours spent on creating plans could be spent on more important matters such as creating fresh and dynamic resources or researching interesting news articles to share with your learners.

Do you ever feel your lessons begin at 10 mph with no pace or purpose? Learners stroll into your classroom, all smiles and reminiscing about their weekends? You may find it difficult to get their focus and attention and the lesson starts on their terms- not yours!! If this is the case then It’s time to strike back!
