Manual Handling
Introduction to Manual Handling Training
The highest percentages of injuries in the workplace are caused by back injury, and the majority are due to poor lifting techniques.
More than a third of over 3 day injuries are related to manual handling. Therefore manual handling training can be an important aspect for both businesses and the health of individuals.
A manual handling course relates to all aspects of lowering, pushing, pulling and carrying. This can be classed as an object (inanimate) or a person (animate). Both have risk factors associated to them that can lead to injury, and can result in time taken off work.
Why Manual Handling Training?
If poor lifting techniques are causing so many injuries and sick leave, then it makes sense to undertake training to counteract this imbalance. Manual handling training can help educate individuals and businesses, by teaching correct lifting techniques. Train Aid’s manual handling course can also help candidates understand why and how injuries happen, and identify risk factors to help stop injuries occurring.
As an employer it is your responsibility to reduce the risk of injury through hazardous manual handling training. The prevention and control of Musculoskeletal disorders (MSD’s) has been highlighted as a priority by the Health and Safety Commission (HSE). The resulting benefit for you is a healthy and happy workforce, and less cumulated sick leave.
As an Individual you may feel that by enrolling on a manual handling course you will learn new skills that can help protect your future health. The training that you will receive will be certificated, and will lead to you having full confidence when working with objects or people.
Who is a Manual Handling Course for?
This course can benefit any business or individual who is involved with lifting objects or people. This could range from a warehouse / factory worker right through to a Physiotherapist or Carer. The skills gained on the course could help protect your future health.
